The counts will run the last weekend of June with the Butterfly Count on Saturday June 27 and the Dragonfly Count on Sunday June 28. We’ll be counting in the Vaseux Lake Christmas Bird Count Circle (here). Depending on turnout, we’ll be splitting into groups and trying to cover as much of the publicly accessible land as we can. Much like a Christmas Bird Count, the idea is to keep detailed lists of the abundance and richness of the species encountered. We also hope to log as many individuals as we can on iNaturalist.
Tyler Nelson and Nathan Earley will compile the results at an evening count up (location and time TBD) and will summarize the data for everyone once we have it all collected. We hope that the count will be a fun opportunity for us to get together in one place and find some fabulous bugs.
