Dear members,

The Executive Committee of the Entomological Society of British Columbia is proposing changes to the Society’s bylaws, to be voted upon at the upcoming Annual General Meeting on November 1, 2013 in Victoria, BC. The current bylaws can be found at Changes to bylaws require a 3⁄4 vote of members present at the AGM. If approved, changes would take effect in the fiscal year following the 2013 AGM. The bylaws are reproduced in the accompanying PDF, with the proposed amendments in red colour. Old wording is struck out, and new wording is underlined. Many changes deal with electronic communication and production of the Journal and Newsletter. The major change is to the Executive Structure. It has been felt for some time that our Executive Committee is too large (15 members, over 10% of our membership!). These changes reduce the Executive Committee to 8, and create 4 appointed Trustees, including a new office, Web Editor. Terms and duties have also been better defined compared to the old bylaws. The entire old Section 7, Officers, has been struck out and replaced with a newly created Section.

Thank you for considering these changes. Please come to the AGM prepared to vote on this important matter.

Sincerely yours,
Ward Strong, President
Entomological Society of British Columbia
